PRIVATE ORTHODONTICS
Invisalign® treatment for teens
Invisalign® treatment is easy to fit into a busy school schedule. Teens love that Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible – and removable too! This means your teen won’t need to adjust their diet or oral hygiene routine during treatment.
Best of all, Invisalign® treatment for teens won’t get in the way of after school activities like musical instrument practice and contact sports, and can be removed occasionally for important dates like a school prom.
Please note if aligners are removed frequently treatment will be prolonged.
Fixed braces for children and teens
Fixed braces are a tried and trusted treatment for all ages. At Overleigh Orthodontics, we offer both traditional metal and discreet ceramic braces. We can customise your child’s treatment to their precise smile needs and goals. As the appliance cannot be removed, it acts full-time, so it is very effective.
Metal Braces
Modern brackets are relatively small, making braces more attractive than they used to be. With this type of brace there is no plastic in the roof of the mouth. Fixed braces are very good at achieving fine detail, and making the smile look its best. These are the standard fixed braces available on the NHS.
Ceramic braces
Ceramic braces are less noticeable than metal braces, these are made up of ceramic brackets and a metal or white coated wire. They are ideal for those who prefer discrete fixed braces.
Pricing
The price of your treatment includes all your active treatment, as well as retainers and 12 months’ post-treatment follow-up. This is an inclusive price – there are no hidden costs.
Orthodontics For Children
NHS Orthodontics
Under 18’s wanting NHS treatment must be referred to us by their dentist. An NHS rating system known as the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) is used to assess patients’ eligibility for NHS treatment.
The waiting list for NHS treatment is currently over 2½ years. If your child has been referred for NHS treatment, our Specialist Orthodontists are happy to check their eligibility with a private assessment appointment costing just £30. Please book a Private Consultation to discuss your child’s treatment options.
NHS REFERRALS & COSTS
NHS Referrals
All NHS referrals for patients under the age of 18 have to be made by a General Dental Practitioner through the central dental Referral Management System. Referrals can only be tracked with a unique referral reference number, this can be obtained from your general dentist. We are currently seeing patients that were referred just over 2½ years ago.
TREATMENT COSTS
NHS Treatment Cost
Treatment under the NHS is free of charge and includes one year’s retention after your brace has been removed. If you need a replacement for a lost or broken removable appliance that can’t be repaired, there is a charge. The current NHS charge is £98 per appliance. You still have to pay this NHS charge even if you normally qualify for free or reduced cost NHS dental services, but you may be able to claim a refund.
RETENTION
What are retainers?
After investing time and effort into perfecting your smile, maintaining those results is crucial. Retainers are used after you have had your teeth straightened to ensure that they remain in their new position. It’s essential that retainers are worn as recommended by your orthodontist, to ensure you continue to enjoy your new, straighter smile.
Retainer Wear
We recommend that you wear your retainer for 20-22 hours a day for the first 2 weeks, and that you take it out to eat, drink and brush your teeth. After this time your retainers should be worn every night (around 12 hours a day) to ensure your teeth remain in their new position.
When your brace is removed, we take a digital scan of your teeth in their new position to customise your retainers. NHS patients receive one set of retainers free of charge and we are able to offer you a spare set of retainers at reduced price at this time. Natural wear can decrease effectiveness of retainers over time and they can get lost or damaged.
If you have had private treatment, two sets of retainers are included in your treatment cost.
If a retainer no longer feels snug please contact us as soon as possible for a replacement to be made. Unfortunately there is a charge for replacement retainers
Protect your child’s smile with a custom sports mouthguard
If your child plays contact sports, it’s important to get a custom sports mouthguard made for them to wear after treatment.
We can offer a discounted price to patients at the end of treatment if they are ordered when teeth are scanned for retainers.
We also have self-fit mouthguards made specifically for people with fixed upper and lower braces. You can mould these gum shields at home using hot water. Please ask at reception for more information.
Removable Appliances
Upper Removable Appliance
URA’s are mainly used to change the bite when minor corrections are required. They can be easily removed and reinserted into the mouth. They consist of wires and sprigs or screws held together by an acrylic base and are used to move upper teeth using gentle force. They are also used for space maintenance, to reduce an overbite, to guide tooth eruption or to tip teeth into the required position. Removable braces are often used in conjunction with fixed braces.
Twin Block Functional Appliance
A twin block brace is made up of two removable appliances, they need to be worn together. When your mouth is closed, both blocks should fit together. They work to correct bite problems and jaw alignment, particularly in growing patients, by encouraging the jaws to grow into the correct position. Twin block braces need to be worn day and night. The only time they should removed is when you brush your teeth.
